I’ve always liked the idea of mentoring partnerships, probably because I had a great experience as a student teacher. Looking back to my university days in the education program, I now realize that what prepared me most for the “real world” was my practicum placement and the support my mentor teacher provided. Through observation, support, guidance, response and communication, I grew as both a student and as a professional. This growth and change happened because of the ongoing communication and the environment of mutual respect my teacher provided. So it isn’t surprising that I was drawn to the video; How Canada is Closing the Education Gap
The video looks at how Ontario, schools have raised their test scores and graduation rates by providing resources such as full-time student success teachers, who help English-language learners and other students in need. Essentially, the program looks at the needs of ELL students and provides them with full-time mentor teachers who guide and support them during their high school careers.
